Work From Home Series Sheds Light on Effective Joint Solutions – First Up, Stratodesk and LG

LG and Stratodesk Enable Remote Work

In the first video of our work from home video series, we discuss how Stratodesk and LG work together to enable work from home with Philip Johnson, Sr. Channel Sales Manager at LG Electronics, and Hernan Contreras, VP of Sales at Stratodesk

Here’s what we asked them, and here are their answers.

What Are LG thin clients?

Phillip: I’m in charge of the the Cloud endpoint business at LG. Cloud endpoints means thin clients. And basically thin clients are stripped down regular PCs. Whereas traditional PCs are going to have a full feature set, thin clients are trimmed down, scaled back in regards to OS, SSD, RAM and feature set.

What is Stratodesk?

Hernan: Stratodesk is a software only company. Stratodesk provides an OS that is Linux based. It’s a very small footprint OS –1.7 gigabytes. We give you the ability to serve your customers by being able to provide connections with your preferred VDI solution provider. We also have connections into WVD (coming soon in native client). And we also do web only options.

What makes this solution ideal for remote work?

Phillip: This is a unique time – things have pivoted quickly since March. Look at how LG has pivoted – making customers have the same environment at home as they do at work. We partner with Stratodesk to offer a complete solution for DaaS or VDI by using Stratodesk OS and management with LG thin clients. That’s 27 inch, 34 inch 38 inch all in one thin clients.

We even have a thin client box type solution that we can use to plug into an existing monitor. If they want a VDI experience but they already have monitors, that works great for that CL600, for example. But where we hang our hat is on our 24 inch thin client, all in one, meaning monitor included. We also have a new 27inch thin client and 34 inch with 4k web cams. We also offer a 38 inch all in one thin client with web built in.

There has been a huge shift in remote work due to the pandemic. How has that impacted the demand for LG thin clients and Stratodesk software?

Phillip: Display business went up right away at LG. We think that as remote work becomes more mainstream, people will get deeper into LG thin clients running Stratodesk.

Hernan: There are several large organizations seriously considering letting employees stay home long term. A lot of folks are getting rid of leases for brick and mortar office locations. Work from home is working better and better. Stratodesk was positioned to take advantage of that when this happened initially.

Phillip: As we look at our society, where organizations are going and budget cuts etc. Several organizations have vocalized online that they will continue working remotely for a set period of time. There is going to be a hybrid model moving forward where some people work remotely, some people work in office on given days.

LG did a survey that shows a high number of employees feel more efficient working from home. Management looks at that and thinks, if we can get more out of the employees, then why not? Organizations are looking at this in regards to the future. I see more organizations taking a serious look at remote work in the future, how can we do it, and how can we make it secure and that’s where LG and Stratodesk comes into play.
