VMware Announces End of Support for PCoIP in VMware Horizon

VMware Horizon Annoucement

What changes did VMware announce?

On March 14th VMware announced that the PCoIP protocol client and Horizon agent will be removed at the end of 2025. This means that VMware’s Blast, which was first introduced back in 2013, and RDP will be the only protocols that are supported.

While the PCoIP protocol will be removed at the end of 2025, it will continue to be supported until the end of 2028. Customers running an ESB version of Horizon will get periodic security updates as part of the Horizon Agent support.

How will this impact Stratodesk customers?

As a VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP), we will continue to provide support for Horizon clients up to 2025 and beyond. However, any NoTouch OS versions after 2025 that include the VMware Horizon client will only support Blast and RDP. Customers using the Horizon client on the Raspberry Pi will not be impacted by this announcement. Blast is the only protocol supported in the Horizon client on this hardware platform.

For Stratodesk customers who would like to use the PCoIP protocol, we will continue to include the Teradici PCoIP client in NoTouch OS.

Making this announcement in advance means that customers have plenty of time to plan for such changes and make any changes. You can read more about this announcement on the VMware website.
