Healthcare Network uses NoTouch Software to Stretch VDI Budget

A healthcare network saves six figures, using Stratodesk NoTouch software to re-purpose PCs, and the use of the NoTouch centralized, hardware-agnostic management ensures more savings going forward.

It was the perfect cure: Clinicians using 400 workstations at a Michigan-based healthcare network never noticed that their desktops no longer ran on their local systems, but were hosted at a central server room.

“We didn’t want to disrupt users, but switching them to a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) helped us drop desktop maintenance costs by at least 50 percent,” says a systems engineer for the healthcare network.

What’s more, the IT team had re-purposed existing PCs, some up to five years old, as “zero-like” VDI clients at 90 percent savings compared to buying thin VDI clients. “That really helped us expand the VDI project,” the engineer says.

The key was Stratodesk NoTouch software, which installed off a USB stick in less than 10 minutes to replace local Windows operating systems. “We were going to have to migrate from Windows XP to Win 7 but most of the PCs wouldn’t support it, and upgrading them was out of the question,” says the engineer.

NoTouch is hardware-agnostic and provides centralized management of existing PCs, new added thin clients, and soon 600 wirelessly-connected existing laptops, an expansion where NoTouch will save another six figures in avoided hardware costs. “We tested other solutions, and none had the flexibility, centralized management, fast deployment and low cost of NoTouch.”
