Cathedral Peak: Stratodesk Updates Endpoint Management and Client Software

New reporting tool and scripting engine simplify the management of client terminals within VDI-infrastructures

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA (PRWEB) JULY 10, 2015

Stratodesk (https://www.stratodesk.com), a specialist in thin clients, PC-repurposing and desktop virtualization, has extensively updated its client and management software solutions. With the release of “Cathedral Peak.” NoTouch OS 2.40 and NoTouch Center 4.2 are now immediately available. The endpoint management solution NoTouch Center has seen particularly broad improvements within “Cathedral Peak,” and now features a multitude of new, useful innovations that help facilitate the work of IT managers and administrators. The release is named after a prominent Californian mountain peak.

New in NoTouch Center 4.2.0

Version 4.2.0 of NoTouch Center includes a new reporting tool, in which the most popular reports, such as those for peripheral devices, firmware images or client and group hierarchies can be pre-configured to be readily available. Reports can be displayed in various formats, including PDF, XLS, DOCX, PPTX, ODT, XML, or CSV file.

At the same time, administrators can now create and customize their own reporting templates more easily than ever before. Custom reports can be generated with the help of the freely available and easy-to-use JasperSoft Studio.

The new scripting engine offers enhanced flexibility, giving users the ability to write their own scripts in their preferred programming language (for example, Python, JavaScript or Lua). Possible usage scenarios include, for example: customized scripts for selective firmware updates based on hardware parameters; or automated generation of notifications to third-party manufacturers of IT-asset management solutions.

The management, maintenance and group assignment of endpoint terminals within a network is made even more convenient with the newly developed auto-assign mechanism, which enables administrators to fully automate the rollout of software to new clients. Upon discovery, and based upon certain criteria, new devices within the network are automatically assigned to their respective groups and configured accordingly. Newly introduced “Regular Expressions” and “Scripted Conditions” offer a new level of flexibility.

Additional developments in NoTouch Center include enhanced security features and a new management interface for the administration of operating system images.

New in NoTouch OS

With the “Cathedral Peak” release, Stratodesk has also introduced a new version of the client operating system NoTouch OS. The updated version features an OS-variant based on Linux kernel 3.16, which includes new drivers and additional hardware support. The new release also includes improved touchscreen support and a security-enhanced key-based management transport mechanism.

“Cathedral Peak” includes the latest versions of Citrix Receiver (13.1) and VMware Horizon View Clients (3.4), each with their respective multimedia enhancements. The operating system also contains a number of additional updates such as Firefox (38.0.5), Dell/Quest vWorkspace (8.5) and FreeRDP (Build 1.2). Touchscreen support is also enhanced through the integration of various drivers.

End users operating NoTouch on a notebook will benefit greatly from the new features in 2.40 that help monitor battery status for more safety and convenience. Stratodesk offers a solution to the problem in which full-screen Windows sessions are unable to display the battery levels of a local device (an issue well-known in the thin client sector) by using visible (On-Screen-Display) and audible customizable battery level indicators and warnings.

“A great deal of detailed work has gone into the newest release, and we have incorporated many user requests and suggestions,” says Emanuel Pirker, CEO of Stratodesk Corp. “The scripting engine and features such as auto-assign afford IT administrators, network managers and IT executives a considerable advantage in terms of flexibility, while at the same time providing more convenience and reduced effort in administration of standard tasks.”

Stratodesk’s NoTouch solutions are ideally suited for the vendor-agnostic re-use and continued use of PCs and thin clients within the context of a virtualized IT infrastructure (“PC repurposing”). Businesses and organizations can use the solutions to reduce costs and efficiently reuse existing hardware.

Availability:

NoTouch is available immediately in the download center (https://www.stratodesk.com). The client operating system update is free for registered customers. The upgrade of NoTouch Center to Version 4.2.0 requires an existing maintenance contract.
