SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–How can IT teams boost their ROI from virtual desktop deployments? By minimizing costs and gaining flexibility, like South County Health did.

South County’s 1,500 employees deliver inpatient, outpatient, and home health services at 15 locations in Rhode Island. They count on VMware Horizon View virtual desktops, but upgrading the PCs that host the desktops was a challenge. “Our annual PC replacement budget was up to $140,000 and was projected to increase by 15% each year,” says Ken Hedglen, South County’s manager of technology. The IT team sought a “boot-to-VDI” solution that would repurpose existing client hardware, and after a lengthy evaluation, they chose Stratodesk NoTouch software.
“Stratodesk allowed us to easily repurpose existing hardware, which reduced our growing PC replacement budget by 40% to about $85,000,” says Hedglen.
Because NoTouch software is hardware-agnostic, it supports South County’s wide range of existing hardware, preventing vendor lock-in. Because it keeps data from being stored on endpoints, it helps South County protect confidential health information. And NoTouch supports connectivity with the peripherals that healthcare professionals need, such as document scanners, barcode scanners, headsets, and dictation microphones.
With NoTouch, the IT team can centrally manage endpoints and deploy them three times faster than before, Hedglen says, saving 20-30 staff hours per week. “We now have over 400 licenses in 15 locations, and NoTouch Desktop is our standard for all new devices and all replacement upgrades,” he says.
